Tim Kimzey has stumbled into bed after photographing a house fire or accident on many nights. He has left assignments with tears in his eyes, as well as a smile on his face, touched over the years by hundreds of subjects willing to allow him a glimpse into their lives – from the tragic and poignant, to the celebratory and humorous.

With light as his guide, Tim strives to capture each subject's essence, be they a president, rock star, homeless individual or war widow. The feeling and artful precision of his work has garnered him many awards in his 18 years as a photojournalist.

He began his career at the Hendersonville Times-News (NC) and went on to the Union Daily Times (SC) where he covered one of the biggest assignments of his career. He was the first to photograph Susan Smith, the Union, S.C. woman who received national attention after murdering her two young sons. Tim's photographs from that event appeared in Life, Newsweek, People, and Time. His images also have appeared in the pages of The New York Times, The Washington Post, and numerous other newspapers.

Tim has spent the last 12 years as a staff photographer at the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, where he met his wife, staff writer Kim Kimzey. On a single day, he may cover spot news and search for features in addition to assignments for the newspaper and its specialty publication, Spartanburg Magazine.
